Discuss why you have decided to complete your BSN at this time, and the concerns you have about completing your baccalaureate degree. Based on the readings in the course materials, what strategies can you implement to be a successful student?
I have decided to complete the BSN program, to help further my career in nursing. Getting my BSN is a stepping stone to getting my MSN in leadership and management. It was a very tough decision to make as i have recently gotten married and have 4 kids ranging from the ages of 2-11 and work full time. My biggest concern is the writing part of the classes, that has always been a weakness of mine

that even through my high school years it was tough. I plan to learn all I can about the APA style of writing and utilize all the on line resources that GCU offers to help me be successful. The strategies I plan on implementing is first to become very familiar with GCU on line materials and where things are, to help me be more comfortable with the program. I will balance my time out with work, Family, and school to ensure that I don’t lack any area. I will stay organized and working as a case manager for 1 year I learned organization is very important and will help you stay less stress and your always prepared.

Re: Topic 1 DQ 1
I initially started working as a Certified Nursing Assistant for two years, then went to school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and now a proud Registered Nurse to be working on a step-down ICU. I am working towards obtaining my BSN because it is a requirement at my job, and I want to keep it. Also, I intend to further my education after achieving my BSN but haven’t decided on what exactly to pursue. My concerns for obtaining my baccalaureate degree are how to combine school with taking care of my kids whiles I am still expecting another baby. The fact that I am expecting another baby makes me feel like waiting till after delivery but at the same time, I do not want to procrastinate. Strategies I can execute to be successful are time management, studying smart, asking for help, staying focus, setting realistic goals, being proactive and rewarding myself. For me to be successful, I need to manage my time properly to be able to meet due dates for assignments; proper time management will help me not to work under pressure and being stressed. It is very essential to maintain academic honesty throughout the entire program to help making good and smart during patient care (Morgan & Hart, 2013)

My Four main goals for my BSN:
To maintain a B or Higher.
To grow more knowledgeable to help better care for my individuals as well the nurses I oversee.
To write good papers that follow the APA format that is required.
To be well prepared for all assignments, to ensure all are turned in on time.
OR Discuss why you have decided to complete your BSN at this time
I decided to start on my Bachelor of Science in Nursing now because I am in the process of obtaining my Associates Degree in Nursing; when I graduate, I will be halfway done with my BSN. I have always known I wanted my BSN; I enjoy learning about the field I am passionate about. Plus, many hospitals and places of work in my area require a nurse to complete their BSN as well. My program so far has been tough but manageable. I have saved for years and now have the opportunity of only working part time and having more time to focus on school. My biggest concern is managing the workload with my other classes and making sure to stay on top of all due dates. Based on the readings some strategies I plan on implementing to help myself be a successful student are using the APA style guide and the GCU Library. I also plan to work ahead to make sure I retain the information as well as have fresh eyes on different assignments from working on them throughout the week. A few goals I have are to keep my schedule up to date, never miss an assignment, always feel prepared and informed and get a final grade of B or better.
ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CLASS
Discussion Questions (DQ)
Initial responses to the DQ should address all components of the questions asked, include a minimum of one scholarly source, and be at least 250 words.
Successful responses are substantive (i.e., add something new to the discussion, engage others in the discussion, well-developed idea) and include at least one scholarly source.
One or two sentence responses, simple statements of agreement or “good post,” and responses that are off-topic will not count as substantive. Substantive responses should be at least 150 words.
I encourage you to incorporate the readings from the week (as applicable) into your responses.
Your initial responses to the mandatory DQ do not count toward participation and are graded separately.
In addition to the DQ responses, you must post at least one reply to peers (or me) on three separate days, for a total of three replies.
Participation posts do not require a scholarly source/citation (unless you cite someone else’s work).
Part of your weekly participation includes viewing the weekly announcement and attesting to watching it in the comments. These announcements are made to ensure you understand everything that is due during the week.
APA Format and Writing Quality
Familiarize yourself with APA format and practice using it correctly. It is used for most writing assignments for your degree. Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in LoudCloud for APA paper templates, citation examples, tips, etc. Points will be deducted for poor use of APA format or absence of APA format (if required).
Cite all sources of information! When in doubt, cite the source. Paraphrasing also requires a citation.
I highly recommend using the APA Publication Manual, 6th edition.
Use of Direct Quotes
I discourage overutilization of direct quotes in DQs and assignments at the Masters’ level and deduct points accordingly.
As Masters’ level students, it is important that you be able to critically analyze and interpret information from journal articles and other resources. Simply restating someone else’s words does not demonstrate an understanding of the content or critical analysis of the content.
It is best to paraphrase content and cite your source.
For assignments that need to be submitted to LopesWrite, please be sure you have received your report and Similarity Index (SI) percentage BEFORE you do a “final submit” to me.
Once you have received your report, please review it. This report will show you grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors that can easily be fixed. Take the extra few minutes to review instead of getting counted off for these mistakes.
Review your similarities. Did you forget to cite something? Did you not paraphrase well enough? Is your paper made up of someone else’s thoughts more than your own?
Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in LoudCloud for tips on improving your paper and SI score.
The university’s policy on late assignments is 10% penalty PER DAY LATE. This also applies to late DQ replies.
Please communicate with me if you anticipate having to submit an assignment late. I am happy to be flexible, with advance notice. We may be able to work out an extension based on extenuating circumstances.
If you do not communicate with me before submitting an assignment late, the GCU late policy will be in effect.
I do not accept assignments that are two or more weeks late unless we have worked out an extension.
As per policy, no assignments are accepted after the last day of class. Any assignment submitted after midnight on the last day of class will not be accepted for grading.
Communication is so very important. There are multiple ways to communicate with me:
Questions to Instructor Forum: This is a great place to ask course content or assignment questions. If you have a question, there is a good chance one of your peers does as well. This is a public forum for the class.
Individual Forum: This is a private forum to ask me questions or send me messages. This will be checked at least once every 24 hours.
